Our Honors squad participated in 21 funerals in 2011. Members also attended 12 memorial services at the Veterans Park in Port Angeles and the Shields memorial at Gardiner . We were privileged to join with the Honors teams from the US Army Washington National Guard; US Air Force; US Navy; US Marines; and US Coast Guard in performing these duties. Members of the Olympic Peninsula Korean War Veterans Association and the Olympic Detachment of the Marine Corps League were present at many of these Honors presentations. It is a privilege, as well as an honor, to participate in these ceremonies. In doing so, we show respect for our comrade, the deceased veteran, and also for his or her family and friends who are in attendance. There is always a bugler, Ted Mata, to sound Taps, and we have beautifully crafted flag cases, made by a generous provider, to present to the family of the veteran. We would like to have you join us in these ceremonies. Nothing is required except your presence. There is never any pressure or requirement to attend any particular Honors ceremony.
